Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is Family Day Care?

Family Day Care is a childcare service where children are cared for in a safe, home-like environment by qualified educators in small groups. It offers a more personalised and flexible approach compared to traditional childcare centres.

2. What age groups do you care for?

We provide care for children up to 12 years of age.

3. Does my child need to be vaccinated?

Yes, each child needs to be up to date with all vaccinations as per the Australian Government Legislation and Access To Childcare requirements.

4. What are your hours of operation?

Agape FDC is open from 8am to 6pm weekdays. Other Educators may accomodate varying hours.

5. Do you provide meals for the children?

Families pack a lunch box for their child/ren with enough food for the day. Throughout the week we will do cooking activities, as well as enjoy Babycinos during some of our regular outings. A lunch box approach has many benefits including school readiness and self help skills.

6. How many children do you care for at one time?

In Australia, Family Day Care services can have up to 4 children per day that are of preschool age (not yet attending primary school), as well as up to 3 school age children (children attending Kindergarten to Year 6).

7. What happens if my child gets sick?

If your child is unwell, we ask that you keep them at home to prevent the spread of illness. If your child becomes unwell during the day, we will contact you immediately to arrange for your child to be picked up. Agape Family Day Care follows all recommendations set out by Staying Healthy In Childcare 6th Edition and will refer to this in each case.

8. How do I enrol my child in Family Day Care?

Camden FDC has many wonderful educators located across the Camden/Macarthur region. To schedule a tour with Agape FDC, simply fill out the form on our ‘Contact’ page. To schedule a tour with our other educators, please use the contact button below to give the office a call. All Enrolments are processed by Camden FDC Coordination Unit.

9. Are there any additional fees?

We have a clear Fee Schedule which is given to you during the tour. This provides an outline of the daily fee and inclusions, enrollment/admin fee, a holding deposit, and other applicable payments depending on the type of enrollment.

10. Is Family Day Care affordable?

Our rates are competitive and tend to be more affordable than standard centre based care. Additionally, you may be eligible for government subsidies or rebates such as CCS. Please check with your local Centrelink for eligibility details or alternatively you can visit them online.

11. What is the process for picking up and dropping off my child?

Parents or authorised individuals can drop off and pick up children during operating hours. Parents are required by law to enter the premises and sign their child/ren in and out each day via our HarmonyKids kiosk.

12. What are your policies on behaviour management?

Our educator follows a positive and respectful approach to managing behaviour, focusing on guidance, setting boundaries, and promoting positive social interactions. The educator will have specific strategies tailored to your child’s needs and stage of development which can be shared with you when requested. The service has a Sensory Gym room, separate to the play rooms, where children can have their own quiet space and privacy when they feel they need it.

13. What safety measures are in place?

All Family Day Care services are regulated by the same National Quality Framework that Centres/Preschools are governed by. We ensure the safety of every child by implementing strict safety procedures, including secure access to the premises, regular fire drills, CPR and first aid certifications for educators, and ongoing supervision. Camden Family Day Care (Camden Council) coordinators also conduct regular unannounced visits to the service to ensure these safety measures are being accurately followed, as well as to check on the well being of all children attending. These visits also incorporate other specific focuses such as assessing the program and activities being provided, compliance, the cleanliness of the facility etc.
The educator is also required to provide updated Police Checks, Working With Children Check and Medical Clearances on a yearly basis. Other procedures such as ongoing risk assessments are also in place to ensure all aspects of the service are best catering to each child’s specific needs such as health and safety, medical needs and age/developmental capabilities.

14. How do you support children’s learning and development?

We offer age-appropriate activities that promote physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development. Our educator creates individualised learning plans to meet each child’s unique needs and interests. The educator and children collaborate each morning to write the program for the day and use this as the foundation for learning, working on current individual goals, project learning opportunities and regular community outings.

15. Can I visit my child during the day?

Yes, we encourage communication with parents. You can visit your child by arranging it in advance with the educator, respecting the day’s schedule.

16. How do you communicate with parents about their child’s progress?

We provide regular updates on your child's development, including daily reports, progress notes, and parent-teacher meetings. You can also contact the educator directly via their mobile for any questions or concerns at any time during the day. The service uses a platform called Kinderloop, which is used to communicate live updates throughout the day (photos, notes, announcements, outings etc).

17. What happens if my educator is unavailable?

In the event that your educator is unavailable, we may be able to arrange alternative care with another educator if enough time is given. It is important to consider having a back up plan such as a family relative/friend that may be of assistance if the service needs to suddenly close due to illness.

18. Do you offer any additional services or activities?

We offer Enrichment programs (see website for more info) as well as Regular Outings into the community each week. These outings include: Parks, Library, Bunnings, Playgroup, Nature Explorers and Occasional Excursions and Incursions.

19. Is there a trial period before committing?

Unfortunately we are unable to offer a trial period for enrollments. This is due to many reasons such as there being very limited amount of placements available each day, educator enrollment notice periods, and also due to other families not being able to have access to that position once it is given to a child.
In saying this, the educator does offer play sessions on a Monday morning where you can come and visit with your child for an hour to get them familiar with the environment and see how they interact with the other children before committing to an enrollment. Please note that these play sessions do not secure your child’s placement. Securing your child’s placement can only occur when all enrollment paperwork has been received and processed.
